Two titans of business aviation — the Gulfstream G700 and Bombardier Global 7500 — compete for the hearts of the world's most discerning travellers. We break down range, cabin, engines, and value.

When the conversation turns to the absolute pinnacle of business aviation, two aircraft dominate it: Gulfstream's G700 and Bombardier's Global 7500. Both hold city-pair speed records, both can cross the planet without stopping, and both carry price tags north of US$70 million. For the buyer choosing between them, the differences are real but subtle — and they come down to how you actually use the aircraft.

Range and speed

The Bombardier Global 7500 is certified for 7,700 nautical miles at Mach 0.85 — enough to connect New York with Dubai, or Los Angeles with Sydney, non-stop. The Gulfstream G700 is rated at 7,750 nm at the same long-range cruise speed, and roughly 6,650 nm when pushed to its high-speed Mach 0.90 cruise. In practice the two are within a few hundred miles of each other on any realistic mission, and weather, payload and reserves will swing the result more than the brochure figures. Both will comfortably fly the longest routes a corporate flight department is likely to plan.

Where the G700 has an edge is at the top end of the speed envelope: it is certified to Mach 0.925, among the fastest civil aircraft flying, which can shave meaningful time off ultra-long legs when fuel allows.

Cabin and comfort

This is where most buyers actually decide. The Global 7500 pioneered four true living spaces — including a dedicated crew rest area and a full-size bed — and its Nuage seat and "Soleil" circadian lighting are widely praised. The G700 answers with the longest cabin in the segment (just under 57 feet), up to five living areas, and 20 oversized panoramic windows that make the interior feel noticeably brighter. Both pressurise to a low cabin altitude (around 2,900–4,500 ft at typical cruise) to reduce fatigue on long flights.

If you routinely fly with a full complement of passengers and want a distinct stateroom plus a separate office, the G700's extra length tells. If your typical flight is a smaller group and you value the most mature, proven cabin systems, the 7500 is hard to fault.

Engines and technology

The Global 7500 is powered by two GE Passport engines; the G700 uses the newer Rolls-Royce Pearl 700, which entered service more recently and brings competitive fuel-burn and emissions figures. The G700's Symmetry flight deck uses active control sidesticks and extensive touchscreen controls, while the 7500's Bombardier Vision flight deck is a proven, conventional-yoke layout that many career crews prefer. Neither is "better" in absolute terms — it is a genuine philosophy difference between the two manufacturers.

Operating economics and support

Both aircraft sit in the same operating-cost band — broadly US$6,000–8,000 per flight hour depending on utilisation, fuel price and maintenance programme. The more important question for an owner is support: Gulfstream and Bombardier both run extensive global service networks, but coverage varies by region. For an operator based in India or the Middle East, confirm authorised service-centre access and parts logistics for your chosen type before signing — support proximity affects dispatch reliability far more than a 50-nm range difference ever will.

Resale and availability

The Global 7500 has been in service since 2018 and has a deeper pre-owned market, which means more data points on residual values and more available airframes. The G700 is newer (certified in 2024), so early examples command a premium and trade rarely. Buyers prioritising immediate availability will find more 7500s on the market; buyers wanting the newest platform will gravitate to the G700.

Verdict

Availability and delivery position

For buyers at this level, the practical question is often not which aircraft is better but which one can be delivered. Both types have order books, and a new delivery position may be years out, which pushes many buyers toward the pre-owned market where inventory is thin and moves quickly. The consequence is that delivery timing, rather than a specification difference, frequently decides the purchase — and buyers who are flexible on completion details often secure a materially earlier aircraft.

Completion is a project in its own right

On a new aircraft in this class, the interior completion is a substantial undertaking with its own timeline, decisions and cost. Cabin layout, materials, connectivity and entertainment specification all take time to settle and to build, and changes late in the process are expensive. Buyers who underestimate this stage are the ones whose delivery dates slip. Treat completion as a managed project with its own schedule and contingency, not as a set of choices made after the aircraft is ordered.

Connectivity has become a decision factor

On ultra-long sectors, the ability to work reliably in the cabin is no longer a luxury feature but a core requirement for many owners. High-bandwidth connectivity, its coverage on the routes you actually fly, and the cost of the service plan deserve genuine scrutiny, because coverage varies by region and by system. For a buyer whose principal value from the aircraft is uninterrupted working time, this can matter more than a modest difference in range.

Crewing and training

Both aircraft require two qualified crew and, for genuinely long missions, augmented crew arrangements. Recruiting experienced pilots on either type is competitive, and initial and recurrent training is a significant recurring cost. Owners moving up from a smaller aircraft should budget for the change in crewing model as well as the change in operating cost — it is a step, not an increment.

Both aircraft are extraordinary and you will not be disappointed by either. Choose the Global 7500 for a more proven platform, a deeper support and resale ecosystem, and a cabin layout that has been refined over more years in service. Choose the G700 for the longest, brightest cabin in the class, the higher top speed, and the newest-generation engines and flight deck. Match the aircraft to your real mission profile and passenger count rather than to the spec sheet, and either way you are buying the best long-range business jet money can currently build.
