Logbooks & Records

An aircraft's logbooks and records document its entire maintenance history — inspections, component times, AD compliance, damage and repairs. Complete, continuous records are essential: gaps or missing logs materially reduce value and can make an aircraft difficult to sell or return to service.

Why it matters: an aircraft's logbooks are its identity. They establish that required maintenance happened, that directives were complied with, and that the hours and cycles claimed are real. In a sale, the records are examined as closely as the aircraft — because for a buyer, undocumented history is indistinguishable from bad history.

Gaps, reconstructed periods or missing entries discount value sharply and can complicate financing and insurance. Owners protect themselves with disciplined, contemporaneous record-keeping and secure copies; buyers protect themselves by verifying continuity from first flight to the present during the pre-purchase review.
