Overview

GippsAero, formerly Gippsland Aeronautics, is an Australian aircraft manufacturer at Latrobe Regional Airport in Morwell, Victoria. It was established in 1977 by Peter Furlong as an aircraft maintenance business, with George Morgan joining in 1984 as the firm moved into manufacturing.

The company is best known for the GA8 Airvan, an eight-seat single-engine utility aircraft first flown in 1995 and certified in 2000, along with the earlier GA200 agricultural aircraft and the turboprop GA10 Airvan. A larger twin-engine design, the GA18, has been part of its development plans.

India's Mahindra Aerospace acquired a majority stake in 2009. By around 2020, however, the company had halted Airvan production and restructured toward supporting existing operators. In November 2023, co-founder George Morgan repurchased the business, becoming sole owner, and GippsAero has since resumed manufacturing.
