Overview
Mooney is an American manufacturer of single-engine piston aircraft, founded in 1929 by brothers Albert and Arthur Mooney. After early financial difficulties, the company was revived in 1948 and relocated to Kerrville, Texas, in 1953, where it has remained.
Mooney is best known for the long-running M20 series, a family of fast, efficient four-seat piston aircraft of which more than 11,000 have been built. Later variants include the M20R Ovation and the M20TN Acclaim, the latter among the fastest civilian single-engine piston aircraft. The pressurized M22 Mustang is a notable earlier model.
The company has weathered repeated ownership changes and production halts. Chinese investors including the Meijing Group acquired it in 2013 but suspended production and laid off staff by 2019. Since September 2020, US Financial, LLC — a group of Mooney aircraft owners — has owned the company, prioritizing support for the existing fleet rather than resuming full production.
